Two days ago, I was at the meeting. Everyone was gathered in a circle in the center of the room. When it was my turn to speak, I proudly proclaimed, “My name is Baluki, and I’m a WoWaholic. (“Hi Baluki”) It has been 5 months since I last played.” Applause. But now it’s all undone. Yesterday, I reactivated my account.

That’s a lie, of course. My name isn’t really Baluki, and I don’t think I was ever addicted to WoW. I can quit any time I want to, dammit! I stopped playing because I was bored with doing dailies and because I didn’t have time to do dungeons anymore.

But I felt like playing again to test out the new Dungeon Finder, which I’ve heard is very good. And it is. Oh, how it is. Yesterday, I stepped into Trial of the Champion, Halls of Lightning, and Utgarde Pinnacle for the first time, and blew through them all easily. Once I was sure that my skills (such as they are) were still intact (and of course they are – I’ve been playing this game for 5 years) I jumped into The Nexus on Heroic mode.

Four dungeons in 3 hours. FOUR! This Dungeon Finder is amazing. Especially the random dungeon mode. The worst part about doing dungeons previously was just finding a group. “Hey, do you want to do a dungeon?” “Oh sure, which one?” “How about X?” “Nah, not that one.” “Do we have a tank?” “No.” [Three hours pass.] “Hey, I found a healer. But he wants to bring his undergeared rogue friend.” “Well, maybe I’ll hop on my Death Knight and try to tank.” Bleh.

I’m going to be playing a lot more often now.

Unfortunately, at this time I have no guild, and most of my old friends are gone – quit, or transferred. Fortunately I saw Heif and Rev on last night, and I hope it’s still them playing their characters. I’m trying to get a friend of mine to stop server-hopping and settle on mine, so we’ll see how that goes.

Here’s my model viewer, in case you want to see how horrible my gear is. Yes, I’m rocking the dungeons in PvP gear.

My sole purpose in posting today is to brag.

I got my Kalu'ak reputation up to Exalted today, and finally got the most awesome fishing pole in the game, the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole. Sure, there's one pole that'll give you a higher Fishing bonus, but it doesn't look nearly as cool (nor is it as easy to get). While I was there, I also picked up the baby penguin pet, and a new mace.

But all of that isn't nearly as cool as what else I got today: a Green Proto-Drake mount. You get it from the Mysterious Egg sold by the Oracles at Revered. The egg takes a week to hatch, and WoWhead says it only has a 4% chance of dropping this mount. I got it on my first try. And man, it looks REALLY cool! The texture is beautiful, and the animation is amazing. It may be the best-looking mount in the game, with the X-51 Nether-Rocket X-TREME (which I would kill for) being the one possible exception.

Just gotta get me a Traveler's Tundra Mammoth and a Mechano-Hog and I officially win WoW.

I just wanted to point out that this past month I hit 70 on both my Mage and my Hunter. I rule.

I've also been working on my Rogue quite a bit. I've gotten him from 35 to 45 in about 2 weeks.

I've also been playing my Priest, but that's a huge pain in the ass. I don't know how other people do it. I've got her up to 32, and it's taking forever. I originally had her specced Shadow, but I actually have her specced for Holy DPS now, shockingly enough. Shadow just didn't seem to gel for me. The Holy DPS spec I have right now is fairly effective, but the mana efficiency is atrocious.

I'm still working on my Paladin too, who's at 64 right now. She'll probably be the next to 70. I had respecced back to Prot for its AOE abilities, but I was having much more fun with Ret, so I switched back.

My Warlock has been sitting in Shattrath at 51 for months now, disenchanting and making potions. I'll probably pick her up again once I get my Pally to 70, and the first thing I'll do is respec back to Affliction. I wanted to try the Felguard, and I don't really care for it. Which is weird, because my Hunter is a BM.

My Warrior and my Druid are still sitting at 18 and 20. I have no interest in playing either. I don't like the Warrior class in general (at least not at 18) and I already have a rogue, warrior, mage, and priest, so I don't feel any desire to play my druid over the others.

I'm really looking forward to adding a Death Knight to my repertoire.

I just wanted to show off this animation test I did for one of my Multimedia courses. I took the Baluki illustration I did a few months ago and created a walking loop in After Effects, then tossed down a bunch of trees and bushes and rendered it all out.

I don't know what I'm going to do with this though. I've thought about doing a series of animated clips, or perhaps a webcomic. But I don't know yet. In all likelihood, nothing will come of it. But I think it looks pretty cool.

Pile of Death

Remember when I used to just post screenshots on this blog? Here's a throwback to olden days.

Here's a pile of kobolds I (and, um, that prot paladin) killed while we were clearing out our mine in AV. One thing I can't stand about AV is how people always forget about defending the mines after they've been captured. Eventually, some opposing rogue or feral drood will come along and capture it. I usually end up going back to recap it, but I really suck at killing rogues (and they excel it killing ME).

With the help of the new Fishing daily quest (which added some much-needed fun to the profession) I hit 375 in all of my secondary skills last week. That's right, I even have Cooking maxed (which is easy to do, especially when you're fishing a lot).

Of course, I DON'T have my weapon skills maxed yet. I've been using almost nothing but a dagger since I hit Outland, and since I'm Elemental, I don't even use THAT very often. Usually just to deliver Flametongue for the last 5% of a creature's health, so I don't waste mana. In fact, my 2-handed Axes and Maces skills are only at 1 right now. I felt a need to train those talents, even though I've never used them. Hey, it was only 20 silver.

Frequent readers of this blog may know that I don't get to do dungeons nearly as much as I'd like to, due to the fact that I rarely have a couple hours of uninterrupted time to play. However, lately I've been throwing caution to the wind and grouping up when I normally wouldn't.

And so, this week I finally got into THREE dungeons that I've never been in before: Shattered Halls, Black Morass (aka Dark Portal), and Steamvaults.

My two SH runs were phenomenal. I ran with a couple guildies who happen to be decked out in Tier 5 gear, a Prot Pally and some sort of Warrior. And let me tell you, Prot Pally tanking in SH is the way to go. He would run through the area, aggroing 2+ groups at a time, and he held them like glue. I love it when I can blast Chain Lighting like a lunatic, and at the end of the first run I got the Tidefury shoulders, which made my CL even more powerful.

My two Steamvaults runs were a lot of fun too. That's definitely one of my favorite dungeons right now. I got to kill a lot of gnomes, get another piece of my Karazhan key (which I thought was in Black Morass) and picked up the Scintillating Coral Band.

Before all of that however, I got into a Black Morass group. I've gotta say, I really don't like that one. It's completely unlike the other dungeons; it's basically just "Guard the VIP" in the middle of a wide-open space. It was a nightmare for me, because I can't produce the DPS necessary without going OOM. And to top it off, we wiped 3 times and only downed the first boss. But I'm ready for another try now, but only because I've got to for my Karazhan key. I got a ton of MP5 gear so I'll last longer, and patch 2.3 is coming tomorrow, so I'll have better mana efficiency/regen too. Once I get my KZ key, I'll probably never go back there.

Well, I finally hit 60 on my hunter Inebrius. That's not really as huge of an achievement as it once was, but he's the first character I've gotten that far besides Baluki (who is of course 70).

I wouldn't have taken so long if not for the fact that I've lost interest in the class numerous times. And to be honest, hunters aren't very interesting when soloing, once the newness has worn off. All I do is send in my pet, Sting the target, and Arcane Shot when it's ready. Of course, all I do on Baluki when soloing is cast Lightning Bolt over and over, which is probably why I haven't played him in several days.

I've never grouped or PvPed on my hunter either, and those are the two places where you get to REALLY play your class. Then again, if I have time for those things, I'd much rather do them on Baluki. Indeed, there are some skills that I haven't even bothered to purchase yet, like Wing Clip or Frost Trap, because I have almost no reason to use them while soloing.

But I'm looking forward to levelling up my hunter in the future. Steady Shot and Kill Command look like they'll be fun to use, and add some much-needed interactivity to my questing. But once Patch 2.3 hits, I probably won't bother for a while, since I'll be too busy levelling up my Tankadin, Mage, and Priest.

After diligently hoarding tickets for the past week or so, I've finally gotten enough to buy a Swift Brewfest Ram. It's really nice having a land mount that doesn't bob up and down so fast that it would normally snap the rider's neck.

The day before, after diligently working up my Netherwing reputation for a few weeks (I didn't do every quest every day) I got my Nether Dragon mount. I chose the green one, because the other ones all look alike (except the teal one, but I don't like teal).

So now I'm riding in style!

This is basically the closest I'll ever get to Illidan.

Once you reach Exalted with the Netherwing, you get a quest to meet Illidan himself. Well, an image of him, anyway. He of course sees right through your simple disguise and is about to zap you, but you're rescued by a nearby dragon-in-disguise (Yarzil the goblin, on the far left) who flies you AT RUNNING SPEED all the way across Shadowmoon, across Terokkar, into Shattrath. Takes about 15 minutes, and nothing happens during that time. Awesome quest, but the flight needs work.

I've been practicing a lot on Illustrator lately, and I was inspired to try to make a cartoon/comic version of Baluki, using nothing but vector graphics. And this is the result. I think it turned out pretty cool, and now I'm thinking that I'll probably do some of my other characters too.

I've also been thinking about MAYBE starting a webcomic, or maybe even some animations (I happen to be pretty decent with Flash as well). Don't hold your breath, because this wouldn't be the first time I've tried to launch a webcomic and then procrastinated or lost interest.

So, yea. Just thought I'd share. I had a lot of fun making it, and hopefully some of you out there think it's as cool as I do.

UPDATE: Oh, let me know which of my characters you think I should do next: male Tauren Hunter (this would be fun because I'd do his pig too), Female Undead Warlock, Male Orc Rogue, Female Blood Elf Paladin, Male Blood Elf Mage, Female Troll Shadow Priest.

New Vid Card

Just got a new video card: the Geforce 6600 GT. Pretty sweet for a mid-range card. Not sure why they put a Doom cover on the heatsink. That would be pretty awesome if I liked that game. (Not that I have anything against it.) Posted by Picasa
